Bitless bridles? Hackamores? etc...?

My horse has a major problem with accepting the bit, and I'm getting sick of the constant battle of putting her bit in because I've tried many methods (moles on the bit etc.), SO I was thinking about getting a bitless bridle, but my friend told me that you have to have a 100% bombproof horse to use one because of lack of control... How are they for control? and will the horse be more inclined to misbehave without a bit in? Advice from people with bitless bridles will be much appreciated, thanks.
