Oil for guinea pig hutch?

I have just finished building a HUGE guinea pig hutch for my two guinea pigs. It is made from wood and will be outside so the boys can enjoy gr and sunshine. My question is - what oil should I use to protect the wood from the elements? I know my pigs will chew at the wood so I want to make sure it is not toxic.
