Please help me nail down a thesis statement for a marginalized group in America?

I chose polygamists and my ideas are all over the place. I will cover history, persecution, figures (people & organizations), & the future outlook. I was thinking something along the lines of religion vs. law or religious practice vs. gratification or choice vs. born into. I would appreciate your ideas to help me culminate a thesis statement.
